iRobot expand range to further challenge Dolphin pool cleaner range

iRobot recently expanded its own range of automatic pool cleaners to further challenge the Dolphin Pool Cleaner range.

iRobot are often noted more for their military and commercial robots, as well as roomba robot vacuum cleaners, but their range of pool cleaners appears equally as appealing, if not as well known as rivals such as Dolphin and Aquabot.

You can see the full range of iRobot pool cleaners, aka Verro pool cleaners on their website.

Which Dolphin pool cleaner is right for you?

…Or is a Dolphin pool cleaner even the ideal solution for your particular needs?

Dolphin do update their range quite often, however generally updates are fairly minor so you can grab bargains by picking up older models, perhaps via eBay or other classifieds websites like our very own pool cleaner store right here at cleanerpoolsonline.com

The current range of Dolphin pool cleaners stretches to about ten models of pool cleaner, for below ground pools, above ground pools, commercial and residential pool cleaning applications. So there is a model out there for everyone, from the robo-kleen for above ground, smaller residential swimming pools to the Dolphin 2×2, which is almost two dolphin pool cleaners in one, designed for larger commercial pool cleaning functions.

But there are alternatives to the Dolphin pool cleaner range, aquabot is a large and increasingly popular brand, SmartPool are promoting their new Nitro robotic pool cleaner, which has bags of unique selling points, and SmartPool claim to be a truly revolutionary robotic pool cleaner, for in ground pools.

It’s well worth taking your time when shopping around for your ideal pool cleaner, don’t always go for your first choice before researching this ever increasingly competitive market, there’s plenty of choice in pool cleaner and Dolphin pool cleaner will have to keep pushing their own range forward to keep ahead of the market.

Kreepy Krauly, the Granddaddy of the Dolphin pool cleaner

When researching the Dolphin pool cleaner, which we simply knew because it seemed the popular, or at least most commonly mentioned of all robotic and automatic pool cleaner brands, we came across an article on Wikipedia about the Kreepy Krauly swimming pool vacuum cleaner.

The Kreepy Krauly really is the Granddaddy of the dolphin automatic pool cleaner, in fact it’s really the granddaddy of all automatic pool cleaners, and it wasn’t born in the USA as you may expect, but in South Africa, the brain child of Ferdinand Chauvier, who himself had travelled to South Africa from the Belgian Congo.

Chauvier quickly spotted a demand for an easier and more efficient way to clean swimming pools, and in 1974, 23 years after moving to South Africa, and around ten years before the Dolphin pool cleaner came into being, the Kreepy Krauly was born.  The company is now America owned, and offers a range of other pool maintenance products, but the Kreepy Krauly itself remains true to the original concept, and while not as smart perhaps as the fully automatic, robotic pool cleaners offered by the likes of the Dolphin pool cleaner, the Kreepy Krauly is without doubt a great time saving pool servicing tool.

Dolphin pool cleaner for above ground pools

Generally speaking robotic and automatic pool cleaner goodness offered by the likes of the Dolphin automatic pool cleaner is reserved for those fortunate enough to own above ground swimming pools.

Fortunately though, that doesn’t always have to be the case.  Those with above ground pools, such as your author here, can have a little of the good thing that is a robotic pool cleaner, although the Dolphin Robo-kleen cleaner will not climb your pool walls, it is designed with above ground pools in mind.

The Robo-Kleen is a lighter and smaller cleaner than your regular Dolphin pool cleaner, but it also also costs a great deal less than your regular Dolphin pool cleaner, as you might expect.

As with all robotic pool cleaners the Robo-Kleen is operated in a set it and forget it manner.  You plug it in, pop it in your pool, and it scoots around the base of your flat bottomed, dished or foot printed pool.

The Robo-Kleen will swallow up small particles, as well as larger objects such as leaves and other swimming pool debris, saving you time, and saving your pool filter work in the process.

It may not be as impressive as those fully automatic, robotic wall climbing pool cleaners those with below ground pools can enjoy, but this particular Dolphin pool cleaner is well worth considering for those with above ground pools.

Dolphin pool cleaner reviews

Looking for reviews online is the first thing many people do now when considering making even the smallest purchase, so when you’re considering spending over $1,000 on a pool cleaner, we’re sure you’ll want to seek assurances that your money will be well spent.

We have taken some time to find independent reviews of various products from the Dolphin pool cleaner range, and what we found, it must be said, was overall extremely positive.

Most reviews, it seems, came from owners who had previously owned some form of automatic swimming pool cleaner previously, be it a dolphin automatic pool cleaner or another brand, most commonly Aquabot, who really seem to be Dolphin’s main competitor in the robotic or automatic pool cleaner market, although probably lesser known and with perhaps less international outlets.

One review of the dolphin diagnostic robotic pool cleaner found on pricegrabber.com starts with the summary “Just plain AMAZING!!!!!!! Worth every penny”, the only faults the reviewer in question could find to comment on were the colour choices and high price. According to the review the dolphin pool cleaner cleaned their 20 x 40 in-ground vinyl pool in less than two hours, cleaning also took minutes in total.

A reviewer from amazon.com on the Dolphin automatic pond cleaner with caddy gave a slightly more conservative four star review, and even gives the remote control a cautious thumbs up as being handy to send the unit back to pick up a missed leaf from the base of the swimming pool.

Epinions.com carries a review of the Dolphin dynamic pool cleaner with remote, again we step down a star to three stars in this instance. The main concerns raised with the pool cleaner revolved around the power cord, which could apparently become tangled and interfere with proper sweeping of the floor, and the fact the unit could come up the pool walls too high and “gulp” air, meaning it would fail to submerge properly back into the swimming pool. At the time of writing the viewer seemed more inclined to swap back to an Aquabot unit rather than replace the cleaner with another Dolphin product when the time came for a replacement.

On amazon.com there is another interesting, damning one star review of the dolphin automatic pool cleaner with caddy, however this is countered by a reply which offers a glowing endorsement of using the unit to clean a swimming pool overnight following an Arizona dust storm. So make of that what you will.

Feel free to share your own experiences of the Dolphin pool cleaner, Aquabot or others with us here at CleanerPoolsOnline.com.

Aquabot, an alternative to the Dolphin pool cleaner

The Dolphin automatic pool cleaner, despite claiming to be the first and biggest of all automatic swimming pool cleaning companies, are far from the only product or company competing in this expanding market.

One major competitor is the Aquabot, Aquabot appear to be promoting a very similar type of robotic pool cleaner to those featured in the Dolphin range, they appear to be promoting hard and promoting well, they even have some videos on video sharing site YouTube.  You know you’ve arrived when you’ve got your product promotions on YouTube, right?

The responses on YouTube say a lot about how this sort of product is received, people just think they’re cool, that the future has arrived, and it’s making it’s way around your neighbours swimming pool!

The Aquabot, like the Dolphin pool cleaner, can make its way all around your pool thanks to a smart little computer chip.  The robotic pool cleaner uses this technology to work out how to tackle your particular pool, regardless of the shape and size, and sets about its business, sucking the dirt of your pool floor and sides as it goes.  They can even handle the steps.

It’s almost hypnotic to watch one of these pool cleaners in action, as it goes across the floor, up and down the sides, up to and including the waterline.  Aquabot also offer higher end models which feature remote control, so if you’re not delighted with the results the pool cleaner achieves on its own, you can take the reigns and drive your own robot around the swimming pool.

Or it could just be something to amuse yourself when your remote control boat runs out of charge, or maybe its a substitute for the remote control boat you could never really justify the cost of to your better half?!

Anyway, the point is that the Dolphin pool cleaner is not the only option on the market, and its always good to look at the competition, they may offer you something you prefer over the market leader.

In the future, everyone will own a Dolphin pool cleaner?

Automatic, and more specifically robotic pool cleaners such as the dolphin pool cleaner are apparently plotting to take over the pool maintenance world.  Even the official Dolphin pool cleaner site openly admits their vision is expand rapidly, and have an automatic pool cleaner for EVERY pool.  That’s some target!<

To be honest, it could happen.  If global warming is as serious as many suggest, then the future is going to be a hotter one.  People who never previously dreamt of installing a pool in their yard, or purchasing an above ground pool for seasonal dips could well be tempted by ongoing hotter than before summers.

When you purchase a pool, or get your pool installed, it can be amazing.  A great feeling, taking a swim whenever you feel like it, have your friends and family around to join in with you, pool parties.  But the reality can quickly set in and the dark cloud of pool maintenance can loom high on the horizon.

Maintaining your swimming pool can become a really time consuming and arduous task, and certainly takes the edge off of the fun of being a swimming pool owner.  And a swimming pool is no foot spa purchase, you can’t just tuck it under the bed or hide it in the attic when you’ve had enough of it.

A cleaning system such as the Dolphin automatic pool cleaner robotic cleaners can save you a heap of time and trouble, if you chose the right system for your pool then cleaning your pool can be as easy as vacuuming your carpet, hands free!  Who wouldn’t find that idea attractive?

Dolphin pool cleaner, what is it?

When looking into various swimming pool maintenance and cleaning systems, it fast became clear to us that of all the automatic pool cleaning systems available, in all shapes and sizes, that the Dolphin pool cleaner seemed to be top dog, for a number of reasons.

The Dolphin automatic pool cleaner claims to be the market leader in robotic pool cleaning solutions, their parent company Maytronic have been around making pool owner’s lives easier, for 25 years. It seems incredible that such a clever innovation and time saving application has been available in one form or another for so long, and we kind of wonder why not every pool has a dolphin pool cleaner system already?!

The main objection buyers probably have to wrangle with is the cost of a dolphin automatic pool cleaner, however dolphin offer a range of options available from many resellers around the globe, and you can often find a bargain on eBay, which is one reason why we created our own Dolphin pool cleaner store page to help you find a bargain.

Maytronics, who produce the Dolphin pool cleaner, have worked hard to build an international reputation for producing quality pool cleaning systems for both residential and public swimming pools. There’s a wide range of offerings to suit many budgets, that’s not to say there’s a “cheap” Dolphin pool cleaner, but with the effort, and more to point time they can save you, more time to enjoy your pool, they could be considered very good value for money.

Automatic pool cleaners

The Dolphin pool cleaner is just on brand of one type of automatic pool cleaner available on an ever increasingly competitive market for easier and more convenient ways to look after your swimming pool.

The dolphin automatic pool cleaner is a member of the robotic pool cleaner family. These are probably the ultimate cleaning aid and big boys toy in one.Robotic pool cleaners are basically computer and/or remote controlled self contained vacuum cleaners for your pool that can even happily handle any size and most shapes of pool. Cleaners like the Dolphin pool cleaner can operate independently of your pools pump and filter system, pretty much a complete solution for the busy pool owner.

An alternative swimming pool cleaner type is the suction side pool cleaner. These usually use suction from your pool skimmer to suck filth from your pools floor, sending it round to be cleaned by your pools filter, pretty much as a vacuum cleaner sucks air in, filters it, and blows it out again. These are obviously less flexible, but more affordable than robotic pool cleaner types such as the dolphin pool cleaner.

Finally we have the pressure side pool cleaner, which use either the pool’s water return, or often a separate booster pump’s return pressure to force the debris and gunk into a bag attached to the cleaner. Smaller particles of dirt are basically stirred about and, with luck, dealt with by the pool filter.

The only downside to automatic and robotic pool cleaner systems is most appear unsuitable for above ground pools. More information on Dolphin pool cleaner and alternatives will be published shortly on CleanerPoolsOnline.com soon

Dolphin pool cleaner worth the cost?

The first question you might be asking yourself before whether or not to buy a Dolphin pool cleaner or other robotic or automatic pool cleaner is whether or not it’s really worth the extra cost over more traditional manual pool cleaning and maintenance tools.

We’ve taken a look around at the options available to people considering purchasing a Dolphin automatic pool cleaner using good old google search and it seems it comes down to three things; Cost Convenience and Time.

While the cost of a Dolphin pool cleaner or other cleaner ‘robots’ may seem like a large amount of capital to invest in what could be seen as unnecessary or luxury item, the time you could save on swimming pool maintenance could easily justify the cost. We’ll be looking into this further on CleanerPoolsOnline.com, check the front page for our latest information on the Dolphin pool cleaner and other pool maintenance options.
